Urban Renewed. Cemetery & Brewery Tour

August 23 /
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

SORRY, THIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT.

There is new life around two places known for death: The Old Columbia Street Burying Ground and Springfield Metallic Casket Factory. Join us on a special Happy Hour Tour of these unique community assets. We will start at the Burying Ground, the eternal resting resting places for Springfield’s earliest residents, to hear the stories of Springfield pioneers, Revolutionary War soldiers, and a member of the Boston Tea Party. We will then take a tour of the new Mother Stewart’s Brewery, housed in a restored section of the Metallic Casket Factory, and sample a flight of their award winning beers. Mobility 2.

$15, which includes a tasting flight of beer.

Guided by Kevin Rose. Sponsored by Kevin and Jeanne Loftis.

Happy Hour Tours are forty-five to sixty-minute walking tours of downtown, followed by a beer, glass of wine, or soda at a downtown restaurant. Rain dates are the following day at 6 pm.

About the Series: The Summer Tour Series, now in its fourteenth year, examines the architecture, design, and history of the built environment in the Greater Springfield Region. Historians, curators, and local professionals guide each tour. The 2017 series includes regular and extended walking tours, bicycle tours and Happy Hour tours. This year’s series starts in early June and runs through the beginning of September.

Westcott members receive discounts to most tours. Tickets are available online and at the Westcott House Museum Store, 85 South Greenmount Avenue. Please be advised that many tours will sell out. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended.

Sponsor:

In addition to our individual sponsors, we would like to thank the 2017 Series sponsors: Springfield Foundation, The Turner Foundation, Ohio Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts and the Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau. In addition, this series would not be possible without the generous support of our many members, volunteers, and donors.
