Soko Place Festival Celebrates Black Businesses on September 10

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Covenant United Methodist Church will invite the media and the public to attend its inaugural Soko Place Festival, a marketplace uplifting cooperative economics in support of national black businesses.

In an effort to continue to raise awareness about the importance of culture and community, Covenant United Methodist Church is hosting Soko Place Festival as an annual one-day event. Soko Place Festival aims to 1) establish an outdoor marketplace uplifting cooperative economics, 2) strengthen the Springfield and Clark County region through arts and culture, and 3) bring residents together to celebrate and patronize local and regional black businesses.

The Festival includes vendors, live music, speakers and food for the whole Family with free entry.

Special musical guests include Tam Tam Magic, All-Star Jammerz, ACAM, G-Thang, and The Voices of Thunder from Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

To accommodate in-person interviews, media interested in attending are asked to contact Grace Brown at (937) 342-3710 or sokoplacefestival@gmail.com.

Soko is translated as “market” in Swahili. SOKO Place is a cultural education and awareness tool developed to establish and maintain a local black business economy. Its core focus is to create opportunities for residents and entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses.
